Selby Gardens is a 9.5-acre bay front property on an open-air and under-glass museum of more than 20,000 colorful plants. Many of the plants were collected in the wild on over 150 scientific expeditions’ in tropical rain forests by the Selby Gardens research staff. Seven greenhouses are the heart of botanical research and plant identification, for which Selby Gardens is internationally recognized. While you’re there, be sure to visit the Christy Payne Mansion. The mansion is a unique example of eclectic Southern Colonial architecture.
Robinson Preserve is located in northwestern Bradenton, in the Palma Sola area, across the street from the Palma Sola Botanical Gardens. This 487-acre preserve has undergone an incredible transformation from disturbed farmland to coastal and wetland habitats. Robinson Preserve features numerous recreational opportunities for the community. Resources for low-impact environmental activities include hiking and biking trails and a canoe/kayak launch. Additional amenities include observation towers and platforms, picnic areas, and a visitors center.
